Six months after the start of TOKEN, Infrachain organised the national launch event for Luxembourg on 8th July, 2020. Given the COVID-19 restrictions, the event was held as a webinar. This was the first such event of a series of national events to present the TOKEN project to a larger audience and to get further stakeholders involved. The webinar got wide attention from the Luxembourg ecosystem and beyond.
Fabrice Croiseaux, Chairman of the board of Directors of Infrachain, opened the conference. He highlighted Infrachain’s involvement in international blockchain initiatives, not only through TOKEN; but also through the European Blockchain Services infrastructure (EBSI), INATBA and the OECD’s Blockchain Export Policy Advisory Board.
Europe, a global leader in blockchain
This was echoed by the first key note speaker Pēteris Zilgalvis, Head of Unit, Digital Innovation and Blockchain at DG Connect (European Commission), who started by saying that “Luxembourg and Infrachain are inextricably involved and implicated in the European Union’s public services blockchain initative.”
Zilgalvis then provided an overview of the overall strategy that is behind the “quest for the continuation of Europe to be a global leader in blockchain.”
An important pillar is knowledge and mapping. This is done though the EU Blockchain Observatory and Forum. The first 2-years mandate finished recently with the presentation of a final report and the second mandate will start with a workshop in September 2020 on Central Bank Digital Currencies.
The European Blockchain partnership was launched by 27 UE member states plus Norway and Lichtenstein. The countries are collaborating to build the European Blockchain Services infrastructure (EBSI). The Commission speaker highlighted that….
